TRANSPORTATION
The Maplewood train station is part of New Jersey Transit's Morris-Essex line and
in addition to providing service to Hoboken, provides Midtown Direct service to Penn
Station in New York City.
The Township provides commuter parking at $130 per vehicle per calendar year around
the train station area. There is also Jitney Service available to Maplewood residents
on three routes throughout town. Jitney service is $65 per pass per calendar year.
In addition, Maplewood residents can purchase a combination Jitney Pass and Parking
Permit for $150.
POPULATION
Maplewood's population is now approximately 23,868 according to the 2000 census.

Maplewood Township Information
Maplewood Mayor and Township Committee
Maplewood Township operates under the Township
Committee form of government. The Township Committee of Maplewood
meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month. It consists of five elected
members for three-year terms. Each year, on January 1, the committee meets to
elect one of the members to be the mayor for a year term. The mayor is considered
to be the head of the municipal government and is responsible as Chair of the
Township Committee with voice and vote. Maplewood citizens can become members
of the Citizens' Boards and Commissions. Since the Township Committee is the
legislative body of the municipality, it has the responsibility of passing the
laws that effect the community. It also sets policy and overall direction of
the Township.
